Corbin Police Department patroller Brentley Patrick was one of 24 recruits who completed 800 hours of training and graduated as part of the Criminal Justice Department’s 519 training class.
“By choosing a profession of service, you are helping to make Kentucky a better and brighter place for the future,” said Governor Andy Beshear. “Thank you for being a member of Team Kentucky in protecting our communities and taking action to serve our great Commonwealth. Congratulations on your graduation, and we pray daily for your continued safety. “
Graduates of Class 519 received 800 hours of instruction at the recruit level over 20 weeks. Major areas of training include patrol procedures, physical training, vehicle operations, defensive tactics, criminal law, traffic and drunk driving, firearms, criminal investigations, cultural awareness, bias crimes and tactical responses to crisis situations.
“Although basic training may be over, your career as an officer is just beginning,” said DOCJT commissioner Nicolai Jilek. “Remember your background and remember that we are there for you at all times throughout your career. “
The Corbin Police Department acknowledged Patrick’s graduation on Facebook with a message congratulating him and the other members of Class 519.
According to the post, Patrick was recognized for his dedication and commitment to the position of Class Guide porter. As a Guidon wearer, Patrick was the visible representation of his class and of the values of honor, responsibility and commitment.
