Minister of Agriculture Giedrius Surplys will work Monday in Kaunas, with the intention of leaving Vilnius. It is expected that the ministry and its subordinate institutions will begin work in Kaunas a year and a half later.
In preparation for the transfer of the ministry, G. Surpus in Kaunas intends to work one day a month. According to him, the ministry wants to move the city of Vilnius to Kaunas not only because of a more convenient geographical location.
According to G. Surplys, the main argument to start working in Kaunas is the commitment to voters. Moreover, this decision was determined by regional policy.
"The revival of some state institutions of a few square kilometers in Vilnius to Kaunas (perhaps later in other cities) is a very important tool for revitalizing the regions. […] Another moment is the University Aleksandras Stulginskis (the only agricultural university of Lithuania) and the House of Agriculture […] t. According to the minister, it is more rational to have the ministry and its subordinate institutions in addition to these important institutions in Vilnius, according to the minister. In addition, G. Surplys adds that Kaunas is closer to the center of Lithuania, so it would be easier for the ministry to reach Lithuanian farmers.
G. Surplys says that with the department, most of its subsidiaries, including the national payment agency, will be transferred. Some of the department's staff are opposed to such plans.
In the opinion of the Minister, it is natural that people do not want to change, but when they move to Kaunas, their time is likely to include travel time. In addition, employees could work flexibly a few days a month.
"We want the ministry to be as close as possible to the center, so that people can easily reach Kaunas by train and then return home." The promise of the Minister of Transport is that the train will not last more than 50 minutes in one direction, so I do not really see any difference between a visit to the dormitories or suburbs of Vilnius in the center of Vilnius and a computer with a convenient link to Kaunas Trust G. Surplys
According to the Minister of Finance, Agriculture, it has not yet been decided where exactly the transposed ministry should be located. It is envisaged to rent the premises or, if it will be more financially profitable, to acquire
"We will see the competition and we will see it during the competition. Another thing, according to our current calculations, is the rental price for ten years is the same as the price of buying a building. This suggests that it might be worth buying a building, but since we have a year and a half left (since the current plan to start work in Kaune in January 2020), there is still time for reflection and calculations ". The Coalition is also studying the possibility of transferring to the Ministry of Environment in Kaunas, although a year ago the Seimas rejected a similar offer from the conservatives
