A few thousand people were forced to visit health centers because of hot flashes.
The Japanese Meteorological Service reported that a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius had been recorded Monday in Gifu Prefecture. According to experts, this is the highest temperature in Japan this summer.
Previously, the country was hit by the most violent rains over several decades, causing floods and mudslides. More than 200 people have been killed, dozens are still missing.
