Local hospitals say most covid patients are unvaccinated

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Hospitals across the United States are seeing breakthroughs in cases, with fully vaccinated people entering hospital with COVID-19.

However, most of the unvaccinated people are admitted to hospitals. Although doctors say these cases are not common, most of these cases were in immunocompromised patients.

The Wesley Medical Center says it has some groundbreaking cases for those vaccinated, but most of its current coronavirus patients have not received their vaccines.

The number of COVID-19 infections is increasing across the country. Here in the Midwest, doctors say they’re seeing a worrying trend.

With the University of Kansas Health System Weekly, Dr Dana Hawkinson said in a weekly update in Kansas City that they are seeing groundbreaking cases, and six of their 37 COVID-19 patients have been fully vaccinated.

“We know this is of great concern in southwestern Missouri and Springfield. Here in the metropolitan area, it’s starting to get worrisome too. With the number of cases certainly increasing over the past few weeks, with the seven-day moving average, but hospitalizations are more of a concern, ”said Hawkinson.
