This brings the total number of deaths in the county so far to 24,542 and 1,257,628 cases of Covid-19.

The number of people hospitalized in Los Angeles County with the virus is also rising steadily, from 336 Friday to 373 Saturday, according to state figures. There were 79 people in intensive care on Saturday, up from 83 the day before.

The average 7-day test positivity rate – considered one of the best measures of increasing or decreasing infections – was 2.4%. A week ago, the same rate was 1.5%. A month ago it was 0.3%. And, despite assumptions made due to trends at the start of the pandemic, this spread is not happening among residents over the age of 50.

“As cases increase, the urgency to vaccinate more people increases. Almost 100% of new cases occur among those who are not fully vaccinated, ”said county public health director Barbara Ferrer. “All of our Covid-19 vaccines are very effective in protecting you from serious illnesses of COVID-19 and worrisome variants like the Delta variant. We remain focused on providing equitable high-quality vaccines and health information to all of our LA County communities, with a special focus on communities that have been hit hard by the pandemic. “
