Former graduates of Desperate Housewives, Marcia Cross realizes that the face of anal cancer is not particularly glamorous, but she is nonetheless determined to use her experience of the disease to educate the public about preventing anal cancer. She also said that she was going to vaccinate her daughters against the human papillomavirus (HPV), the sexually transmitted virus that caused her cancer of the anus.
Crossing, 57, spoke this week at an event hosted by the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, but acknowledged that there is still stigma surrounding the disease, but she will do her part to stop it.

"It's not a job that everyone really wants," Cross said. "It's not very glamorous to be the face of anal cancer … I want to tell you that I now love and cherish my anus and that you should all love and cherish yours. We should all stop being embarrassed because we have a nice anus; it's an incredible job.

Cross announced a year ago that she was recovering from a battle with cancer on Instagram. she specified that she was fighting against anal cancer a few days later. Now that she has been free from cancer for a year, she encourages others to become aware of their bodies and take preventive action, if necessary.

"Find out about the HPV virus," Cross said. "It's really the most important for me, because it causes 5% of our cancers and we must all be aware of the situation."
