LOS ANGELES – Michael Irvin shared something very personal about social media on Tuesday night.

The former Dallas Cowboys player went on Instagram to share a very scary battle for health with which he is struggling and ask people for prayers.

Here is the entirety of his Instagram post:

"I spent Sun & Mon in Los Angeles at UCLA Medical Health (Ronald Reagan Hospital) doing a health test. I would not usually do it, but I had to share it. Growing up in the Fort Lauderdale ghetto, the only thing to conquer to get out is fear. I did! As a football player, the fearless gift served me well as a blessing and an asset on the pitch, but sometimes off the pitch it was a curse and a handicap. This football season after the @dallascowboys beat the @Saints, I was so thrilled and excited that I lost my voice and that the problem persisted for almost two months. After consulting with some of the best throat doctors, they thought it wise to take a closer look at the situation. So we programmed and performed a throat biopsy. To give you an overview, I share with you the fact that I lost my father at the age of 51. He had cancer of the throat. This demon has driven me away and vexed deep in my mind all my life. By saying this, I'm afraid this time is a big understatement. I AM TERRIFIED!! My faith tells me that every time you face a great fear, you are going to power your greatness. Mine is God. I ask everyone who wants it. Could you please send a prayer to help my family and I cope, regardless of the results? Thank you for your thoughts and prayers in advance. I will continue to pray for the protection and prosperity of your family. God bless us all ???? "

His message has received thousands of comments from football players and fans sending him prayers and wishes.
