Michigan coronavirus cases up to 937,720; The death toll now stands at 20,161

DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan rose to 937,720 on Wednesday, including 20,161 deaths, state officials report.

Wednesday’s update includes a total of 4,326 new cases and 38 additional deaths in the past two days – an average of 2,163 cases per day. On Monday, the state announced a total of 933,394 cases and 20,123 deaths.

The deaths announced Wednesday include 10 identified during a review of vital records.

Michigan now reports COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Testing has grown to around 20,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with the Positive rate for 7 days at 8.60% from Monday, slightly higher than the previous week. The rate of positive tests has continued to increase since the end of June, when it was at its lowest. Hospitalizations have increased 231% since July 1.

Cases are on the rise again in Michigan. The state’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 1,544 on Monday – a significant jump from early July. The 7-day average of deaths was 13 on Monday. The state’s death rate is 2.2%. The state is also reporting “active cases,” which were listed at 36,600 on Monday.

Michigan has reported more than 9.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered on Sunday, with 65.2% of 16+ residents who received at least one dose while 56.9% of 12+ residents are considered fully vaccinated.
