WHEELING – New details have emerged in the investigation into the murder of William Ross Carman, accused of killing Anorah Schostag on Friday afternoon.
According to police records, police carrying out a welfare check around 2 p.m. Friday found Schostag, 41, from Wheeling, upstairs at 8 Frazier Run Road, where she was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, Schostag suffered “a large and deep neck injury and a large chest injury”. It was Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger who contacted Carman, who was seen walking in the front yard. Carman, 35, from Wheeling, with no registered address, was apprehended after a brief chase.
Eyewitnesses say Carman left the house the same time the police entered and no one else has been seen leaving the house in the meantime. Carman was taken to hospital afterwards, with injuries to his hand and neck, according to the report. His socks, pants and shirt were covered in what was suspected to be blood, police said.
Police also spoke to a woman who recounted the events. The woman said Carmen spent most of the day at the house at 8 Frazier Run Road, robbing Schostag and putting many things there in duffel bags. She described Schostag as “distraught” and trying to befriend Carman. The witness said she was in an office in the house with Schostag when she was attacked by a person wearing a black mask, which police say was later found in Carman’s possession.
The woman grabbed Schostag’s child and fled the scene, asking someone for help, and was the first to meet the police when he arrived.
Carman remains housed at the North Regional Jail in Moundsville and is charged with murder. No bond has been established.
