Motorola Moto G7 is the inexpensive Android phone you've been waiting for

I am a technical critic, so I think people expect me to wear the latest iPhone – at least that's what I say to my wife.

My current choice is the iPhone XS Max.

Apple has released several iPhone models in recent years, but none of them was what I would call inexpensive. If I wanted to find a cheap iPhone, I would look for another one.

Android users have their share of expensive phones, but they are also lucky to be able to choose from some really great affordable choices.

I've tried the Motorola Moto G7, which contains many cool features in a device that costs only $ 299.99.

The G7 looks great with its 6.2-inch LCD, edge-to-edge, with a 19: 9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2270 x 1080p.

The front and the back are glass. The phone is waterproof, but I would not count to swim.

Motorola has moved the fingerprint sensor to the back, under the cameras, which is perfect for my hands. Fingerprints are easy to record and the phone unlocks very quickly by simply touching the sensor.

The G7 is almost as big as my iPhone XS Max, but it has a slightly larger frame at the bottom of the screen where Motorola has placed its logo.

It measures 6.18 x 2.96 x 0.31 inches and weighs 6.06 ounces.

It synchronizes and charges with a USB-C port that transfers data to USB 2.0 speeds. The G7 also has a headphone jack.

It comes with 64GB of built-in storage and has a microSD card slot for additional storage.

The G7 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 1.8GHz Octa-Core processor with 4GB of RAM and an Adreno 506 graphics processor.

The phone comes with Android 9 (Pie).

There are two cameras on the back of the G7. The main camera has a 12-megapixel sensor with a f / 1.8 lens and the secondary camera a 5-megapixel sensor used only to provide depth information mode portrait.

The main camera can record a 4K video.

The front camera has an 8 megapixel sensor.

Cameras do a good job, especially under good lighting, but you will not get the same quality as with cameras on a phone costing $ 1,000 or more.

Gestures Matter

There are some cool things that can be used as shortcuts on the G7.

If you change the phone quickly, as if you return it twice in a row, the camera application will launch.

If you shake the phone as if you were giving a karate chop, the flashlight would be on.

The G7 also features a one-button navigation mode that replaces the three buttons on the bottom screen with a button that acts like all three with your fingertips.

The G7 has a 3000 mAh battery with a 15 watt TurboPower charge that will give you nine hours of phone use with only 15 minutes of charge. The faster charger is included in the box.

Compromise

There are a lot of cool features on the G7, but when you pay the third of the cost of a flagship Apple or Samsung phone, you will notice some missing features.

There is no wireless charge or NFC chip.

The absence of NFC means that you can not use the phone to pay with Google Pay.

And, as I mentioned above, the camera is good but not excellent.

Users will also find that the G7 is not the best choice for games that require a lot of graphics.

But overall, the G7 looks like a more expensive phone.

It looks great, reacts fast enough for everyday use in applications and has a nice big screen.

I also like the microSD card slot.

Not being able to pay for things with the phone is a disappointment, but if this feature does not matter to you, I can definitely recommend the G7.

I know a lot of users who are looking for affordable prices versus features. The G7 is the best cheap Android phone you can buy right now.

Advantages: inexpensive. Big screen. Expandable storage.

Disadvantages: Single speaker. Photo quality suffers in low light. No wireless charge.

Bottom line: The G7 is the best phone for less than $ 500.
