The Cleveland Cavaliers drew closer Saturday with the completion of a first round of interviews with candidates for the franchise's main coaching position, league sources told ESPN.
Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman and members of his office met separately with several assistant coaches in Denver on the eve of the seventh game between the Denver Nuggets and the Portland Trail Blazers, including assistants from Denver, Jordi Fernandez and Wes Unseld Jr. league sources said.
The Cavaliers also interviewed Steve Hetzel, Orlando Magic's assistant, in Denver Saturday, sources said. The Cavaliers have been allowed to interview another Trail Blazers assistant, Nate Tibbetts, but scheduling conflicts will delay holding this meeting after the end of the Western Conference semifinals series. Blazers-Nuggets, sources said.
The Cavaliers interviewed Ettore Messina, the assistant of San Antonio Spurs, over the past few days.
