A new state of emergency has been published in Rockland County, with the number of measles cases exceeding 200 since the beginning of the outbreak last year.
County Executive Ed Day released the second statement renewing the initial declaration that was due to expire at 11:59 pm on Thursday, April 25. The renewed state of emergency takes effect at midnight on Friday, April 26 and extends until Saturday, May 25. .
"In the last 30 days since my initial statement, we have lost the only thing we could not afford, precious time," said Day. "With nearly 50 new cases confirmed in less than a month, our predictions have come true and this epidemic continues to rage despite the best efforts of our Ministry of Health.
"The disagreement between the different jurisdictions has undoubtedly caused confusion and helped to maintain the situation. However, I promise that we will continue to do everything in our power to fight this deadly disease and stop it once and for all. "
Between court battles, state of emergency and commission orders, some residents are confused by the complicated process.
In simple terms, the new directive does not prohibit unvaccinated persons from entering indoor public gathering places, but the current orders of the Commissioner require that anyone with measles and those who have been exposed measles are excluded from public indoor and outdoor gathering locations in Rockland County.
