The New York Police Department told Fox News on Wednesday that the man wanted in the brutal passage of an Asian woman in Midtown Manhattan earlier this week was arrested and charged.

The suspect has been identified as Brandon Elliot, 38. He was arrested around 2 a.m. and then charged with assault as a hate crime and attempted assault as a hate crime.

The New York Post, which first reported on the arrest, said Elliot lives in a homeless shelter near where the attack took place.

The beating was brutal and was caught on surveillance video from inside a Midtown lobby.

The Post, citing police, reported that the suspect shouted anti-Asian statements while beating the woman. Sources told the newspaper that the assailant shouted, “Fk you, you don’t belong here.”

The video appears to show the 65-year-old getting her stomach kicked, causing her to fall. The assailant hits her while she is on the ground, kicking her in the head and body.
