JACKSONVILLE, Florida – Last week was one of the driest weeks since mid-May. The sky is sunny and the hot and dry conditions prevailed. But as the week progressed, we felt moisture build up and so did the chances of afternoon and evening storms. At the end of the week, the deep tropical humidity returned to our region. This meant that the meteorological model was rapidly turning into an "early and often" pattern of afternoon and evening storms (perhaps during the night).
And it is here that we resume the story this morning. The early and frequent storms are there to last throughout this work week. Thursday and Friday are likely to have the highest odds and the highest rainfall. In fact, every afternoon, we could easily see sparse amounts of rain, small hail and gusts up to 50 mph. On Monday there were some violent storms and we can still see it today and Wednesday. The storms of Thursday and Friday will be over on heavy rains.
Storms / showers can begin as early as 11 am along the I-75 corridor (west of Jacksonville) and these storms will move from one end to the other. other of the state in the middle of the afternoon. I-95 is most likely to see storms between 2pm and 5pm.
Keep the umbrella close at hand and watch out for lightning.
