A massive fire that killed two firefighters and four civilians destroyed 884 homes. That's 823 homes destroyed earlier.
California firefighters said Tuesday that the forest fires near Redding, California, had lasted more than a week and had burned 172 square miles (445 square kilometers).
It is estimated that it is the ninth most destructive fire in the history of the state.
More than 27,000 people were evacuated from their homes, but another 10,000 were able to return on Monday as reinforced lines.

The so-called Carr Fire destroyed 818 homes and 311 outbuildings. State Fire Department spokesman Scott McLean says it's the ninth most destructive fire in the state's history.
Some 12,000 firefighters fight against the fire. Firefighters say they're making progress against the fire, which is contained at 23%.
More than 27,000 people remain evacuated.
