A man appeared in court for attempted murder following a violent attack on a woman in the public restroom of a shopping mall in Adelaide, while the search for weapon in question continues

Police arrested a car driven by a 25-year-old man from Salisbury East, whose identity was suppressed, faced the Court of Appeal. Elizabeth Thursday, did not make any bail application and was placed in pre-trial detention.

Detective Inspector Billy Thompson of the Major Crimes Unit said that the police had not found the knife used in the attack.

"Currently, police search the streets and around the Parabanks shopping center to try to recover this knife."

The victim of the attack was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and was able to speak to the police.

Inspector Thompson said the investigators did not believe that there was a relationship between the woman and her abuser.

"We are still of the opinion that he is not known to her and she is not known to him," he said.

The retail trade union said earlier this week that the attack had occurred after years of concerns about the safety of workers at the shopping center of the northern suburbs. Introduce more stringent security and safety measures in the site's parking lot, including better lighting, more security guards and more CCTV cameras.
