Mothers play an important role in ensuring that their children follow a healthy lifestyle and have a lower risk of developing obesity. Children of mothers who followed the five lifestyle factors low risk (quality diet, normal body weight, regular physical activity, light or moderate alcohol consumption, non-smoker) had 75% less risk of developing obesity, compared to offspring from women who did not meet any of the low-risk lifestyle factors.
