The Interim Prime Minister of New Zealand called on Australia to change its flag, saying that the neighboring country had stolen the banner of his country.
The flags of both nations are dark blue with the Union Jack emblem in the upper left corner.
The only net difference is that the Australian version also has six white stars, while New Zealand has a constellation of four red stars
Winston Peters, who temporarily heads the country during Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is on maternity leave raised the issue earlier this week and complained: "We came first with this design."

The 73-year-old man said: "We designed it and they borrowed it and if we wanted to fix the problem, they should change the flag."
He adds d: "It must be made clear that everywhere the world people are confused.I have been in places like Turkey and elsewhere where they confused our countries on the basis of these flags.
Opposition leader Simon Bridges ridiculed Peters' flag by accusing him of populism and calling him a "Donald Trump of a poor man."

New Zealand adopted its flag in 1902, while Australia was officially recognized only in 1954.
However, the Australian version has been used informally since 1901 and both countries say designs similar were common in the late 1800s.
New Zealand held a referendum on changing its flag to a silver fern design in 2016, with the proposal defeated 43% to 57% .
