A Perth woman who thought she had a cold fell into a coma for a month

A PERTH woman was lucky enough to be alive after being struck by a virus that put her on the line in a coma for four weeks

Renee Power ignored the symptoms of a virus and went to bed thinking that she had just had a bad cold.

Unbeknownst to her, the 21 – year – old child suffered from encephalitis that attacked her.

The next morning, her mother Carla Power could not wake her up.

Renee stopped breathing and was in a coma for four weeks

Carmela said that the test was a "total nightmare".

"It was as if your heart was torn apart and (wondering) would it ever wake up?" She just kept fighting and fighting to be with us. "

Renee spent 16 weeks in the hospital but aims to walk ain and at home in September – in time for his 22nd birthday
