The Department of Health and Welfare (MOHW) reports that there have been no deaths from COVID-19 vaccinations in Jamaica, in the six months the island has administered doses.
Dr Melody Ennis, director of family health services at the Department of Health, told a press conference on Thursday, September 30, that eleven people have died after being vaccinated.
However, nine (9) of these cases were due to other causes, which makes their vaccination fortuitous.
“The other two deaths were classified as temporal indeterminate, which means that if they occurred after the vaccination of people, there is no established link with their vaccination,” the health ministry said in a statement. .
“The ministry continues to encourage Jamaicans to get vaccinated to prevent serious illness, hospitalizations and / or death associated with COVID-19. There are currently two vaccines in the country: the two-dose AstraZeneca and the single-dose Johnson and Johnson. Both vaccines provide protection against the deadly COVID-19, ”the statement said.
By 1 p.m. Friday, the island had administered 787,602 doses of vaccine. Of these, 507,832 were first doses, 250,579 were second doses and 29,191 were single doses.
