Water polo team hosts fundraiser at Oggi’s
The San Dieguito High School Boys’ Water Polo Team invites the community to their 4 to 9:30 p.m. fundraiser Tuesday at Encinitas Oggi’s, 305 Encinitas Blvd. Oggi’s will donate 15 percent of the proceeds to the in-place and take-out meal ordering team. Backpacks Delivery at Farr Elementary School
Farr Elementary School was recently the site of a backpack giveaway sponsored by ICNA Relief USA as part of its annual Back2School distribution program. The program equips 45,000 students nationwide with essential school supplies, including pencils, pens and notebooks. The County of San Diego, the County Oversight Board and individual donors supported the event. The Farr School giveaway distributed 470 backpacks. ICNA Relief is a national relief organization that is part of the Islamic Circle of North America. It operates 47 pantries and distribution sites in 24 states. Two finals at the Tools for Schools event
Two teachers from the region were named among 61 national finalists in the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools competition, which focuses on teaching the skilled trades. These are Angela Arnett from Escondido High School, whose domain is Technical Theater, and Nicholas Jordan from Montecito High School in Ramona, whose domain is Construction. Arnett and Jordan were also finalists in 2020. The 2021 finalists specialize in trades such as advanced manufacturing, welding, construction, auto and agricultural mechanics. The winners will be announced at the end of October. Over $ 1 million will be shared by 18 teachers and their skilled trades programs – $ 100,000 to each of the top three winners and $ 50,000 to each of the additional 15 winners. Community meeting on equity in education
Parents, community members, K-12 educators and others interested in equity in education are invited to a virtual meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday to learn more about the plan. action for equity developed by the San Diego County Office of Education. To help educators better support all students, the office released the Equity Blueprint for Action, a guide with actions and recommendations specific to Native American, African American, and Latin communities. The Equity Blueprint is also a guide to serving other historically marginalized groups, including Asian Americans, people of the Middle East and North Africa, and LGBTQ students. Applications sought for the poster competition
STAR / PAL invites students to join their Red Ribbon Week poster contest. The Red Ribbon Campaign is the country’s oldest and largest drug prevention program, culminating with Red Ribbon Week (October 22-28). STAR / PAL is a not-for-profit law enforcement volunteer organization for San Diego youth. Students in Grades 3 through 5 at San Diego County Schools are eligible to enter the competition. Each child can create a poster on 8-1 / 2 x 11 inch paper, incorporating the 2021 theme, “Drug Free Looks Like Me”. Register your intention to participate by sending an email to Mayra Nunez at [email protected] before October 4th. After completing the poster, send a photo of it – do not send the actual poster – by October 29 to [email protected] with the subject line “Red Ribbon Week 2021 Poster Contest “. Include name, school name, grade level and contact details. Judging will be based on artistry, originality, creativity and cleanliness; one winner per grade level.
