Officials: Tourist with measles in Santa Clara County may be contagious

SANTA CLARA, California (KGO) – A tourist with measles has traveled to seven cities in South Bay, prompting a public alert on Tuesday from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department regarding possible exposure to disease.

Between March 16th and March 22nd, the tourist visited shops and restaurants in eight cities in South Bay. We have listed all the locations below.

County health officials emphasize that it is not a public health emergency. They say that the vast majority of county residents are vaccinated against measles and protected.

"Our message is that if you are not part of the majority of protected people and may have been exposed, you need to know what the symptoms are and monitor them," said Dr. Sara Cody, Director of Health. of Santa Clara County.

Symptoms include rash, fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes. They can develop between seven and 21 days after exposure.

Measles is transmitted by air and it is not necessary for people to be in direct contact with an infected person to contract the disease.

County Health Authorities stated that there was no known case of measles transmission because of this possible exposure.
