Oneida County Reports Record 317 Positive COVID Tests in One Day

Oneida County declared its highest number of positive test results in a single day on Wednesday, with hospital admissions also reaching a new record.

There have been 317 new positive cases reported, and a total of 181 people in the hospital, including 167 admitted between the Mohawk Valley Health System and the Rome Memorial Hospital. The other 14 are in hospitals outside the county.

The Mohawk Valley region had the highest positivity rate in the state for several days, with the rate standing at 9.36% on Wednesday.

Oneida County Director Anthony Picente reminds people to avoid rallies this weekend, to help stop the spread.

“These are worrying numbers that reinforce the need for everyone to remain diligent in complying with the health and safety guidelines that we continue to insist on every day. It should also remind you how important it is to be smart on this and New Year’s Eve and to avoid congregating with people outside your household to prevent the spread of this deadly virus, ”said Picente.

Nearly 12,000 people have tested positive in Oneida County since the start of the pandemic and nearly 5,000 have recovered. There are currently 5,231 active cases.

There are more than 7,500 people in quarantine or in isolation.

A total of 221 COVID-related deaths have been reported.
