Orange County reported 1,943 new cases and 18 new deaths in the past two days to November 27 – Orange County Register

The Orange County Health Agency reported 1,943 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, November 27, which updates statistics locally as of Wednesday.

The department was closed for Thanksgiving and did not update its online dashboard that day.

The cumulative total of reported cases in the county as of Friday stands at 75,095 cases since the start of follow-up.

There have been 10,509 new cases of coronavirus reported in the past 14 days.

The county reported eighteen new deaths on Friday, bringing the total number of reported deaths to 1,577.

Of the 1,577 cumulative deaths from the virus, 594 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 128 were in assisted living residences and four were considered homeless.

The distribution of deaths by age in the county is as follows:

  • 85 years and over: 32.97% (514)
  • 75 to 84: 21.68% (338)
  • 65 to 74: 19.63% (306)
  • 55 to 64: 13.79% (215)
  • 45 to 54: 7.70% (120)
  • 35 to 44: 2.57% (40)
  • 25 to 34: 1.35% (21)
  • 18-24 years: <.1% (4)
  • 17 and under: 0% (1)

Data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process, officials said. The most recent deaths were on November 14.

It is estimated that about 82% of the cumulative cases reported, or 59,080 people on Friday, have recovered. The number of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative number of previous 28 days.

The county update reported that 1,426,129 tests have been performed for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 40,934 tests reported in the past 48 hours.

The county also reported 506 patients in local hospitals with the coronavirus on Friday – 27 more patients than in Wednesday’s report. The highest number of hospitalizations in Orange County was 722 on July 14. There were 139 patients enrolled in the ICUs on Friday.

Data released daily is preliminary and subject to change, officials say. Further information may become available as investigations of individual cases are completed.
