Orange County reported 790 new cases and no new deaths as of December 1 – Orange County Register

The Orange County health care agency reported 790 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, December 1.

This brings the cumulative total in the county to 79,343 cases since the start of follow-up. An estimated 12,596 cases have been registered in the past 14 days.

No new deaths were reported by the county on Tuesday, keeping the total number of reported deaths at 1,577.

Of the 1,577 cumulative deaths from the virus, 594 were residents of skilled nursing facilities, 128 were in assisted living residences and four were listed as homeless.

The distribution of deaths by age in the county is as follows:

  • 85 and over: 32% (520)
  • 75 to 84: 32.73% (343)
  • 65 to 74: 21.69% (309)
  • 55 to 64: 19.74% (219)
  • 45 to 54: 7.73% (120)
  • 35 to 44: 2.66% (40)
  • 25 to 34: 1.36% (21)
  • 18-24 years: <. 1% (4)
  • 17 and under: 0% (1)

Data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process, officials said.

It is estimated that about 88% of the cumulative cases reported, or 60,186 people on Tuesday, have recovered. The number of people who have recovered is based on the cumulative number of previous 28 days.

The county update reported that 1,469,434 tests have been carried out for the coronavirus since testing began locally, with at least 17,236 tests reported in the past 24 hours.

The county also reported 648 patients in local hospitals with the coronavirus on Tuesday – 43 from Monday. The highest number of hospitalizations in Orange County was 722 on July 14. There were 158 patients listed in the ICUs on Monday.

Data released each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials say. Further information may become available as investigations into individual cases are completed.
