Patriots exchange Demaryius Thomas against Jets

NFL teams do not often trade their players against an opponent in their division, even a player they give away because they have no place for him.

No one likes a job more than the New England Patriots and his trainer Bill Belichick, but even Belichick has had his limitations.

Until Tuesday.

Reports: Demaryius Thomas traded to the Jets

Following multiple reports, the Patriots traded receiver Demaryius Thomas to the New York Jets of all teams. New York sent a sixth-round pick in 2021 to New England.

The Patriots signed Thomas in April, then released him on August 31, to bring him back two days later.

However, with the signature of Antonio Brown by New England, the receivers room is overfilled.

Thomas has once again the opportunity to play for Adam Gase. Now Jets head coach Gase was the coach of the Denver Broncos receivers when Thomas was selected by the team in 2010. They worked together until Gase left for Chicago in 2015.

First trade with the Jets of Belichick

This is the first time, in the Belichick era, that the Patriots are completing their trade with their rivals AFC East. Recall that in 2000, New England had to yield a first-round pick to engage Belichick at the head of his head coach, after his abrupt resignation as the Jets head coach.
