Until last Thursday, the Hospital Alcides Carrión de Es Salud had four patients with influenza AH1N1 and one died because of this disease. The director of the Health Network of Es Salud, Paulo Gordillo Maydana, reported yesterday that two critically ill patients died this week

Gordillo explained that the victims were 57 and 60 year old men suffering from pain. hypertension and diabetes. He recalled that the first case of death was a 83-year-old man with kidney failure.

AH1N1 flu is a viral disease that can spread through contact with sick people or in an environment where the virus is found. This flu can cause severe acute respiratory failure (oxygen does not reach the lungs) and affects more people with weakened immune systems.

Es Salud currently has four patients in treatment for H1N1 flu, one of them in critical condition. Gordillo said that security measures have been taken to prevent contagion. "The first person who died came from Lima and already sick, he did not have it here," said the doctor.

Edgar Tejada Vásquez, director of epidemiology at the Regional Directorate of Health, informed that apart from the 4 people killed by AH1N1, there are 27 confirmed patients with this disease. Many of them have already recovered satisfactorily. ❧
