The head of the epidemiology of regional health management, Jorge Velarde Larico, has informed that the death of the doctor was due to the complications of ] disease . "The virus weakens the entire respiratory system, can be complicated by viral pneumonia and the lungs stop functioning," he says.

The doctor becomes the second victim because of AH1N1 in 2018 in Arequipa. So far this year, in the region, other 45 cases of the disease have been diagnosed. The patients received the treatment and the majority were released.

The region of Epidemiology still has 20 tests to be confirmed and 170 patients suspected of influenza H1N1 have been identified.

Velarde called upon the population to go to the health centers to receive the vaccine against influenza to prevent the contagion of AH1N1 because it was caused by a virus that circulates in the environment. In addition, weather conditions worsen the situation.

The vaccine has been placed since April in health centers. Priority is given to children under five, pregnant women and the elderly.

In Health they warned that, last year, no case had been presented, but in 2016 there were 150 people infected and died . It will be monitored if the outbreak develops.
