Starting this Monday, July 9, the League Against Cancer will organize a gastroenterology campaign for men and women to detect and prevent cancer of the stomach, esophagus and colon in his headquarters located in Pueblo Libre, Lima and Surquillo

It is important to note that in Peru, stomach cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women.

According to national registries, more than 4,800 new cases occur each year and more than 4,087 people die, that is, more than 85% of patients die.

Most cases of stomach cancer are caused by the infection of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. The contagion is generated by the intake of untreated and contaminated water, does not properly disinfect vegetables and fruits, and does not boil the water.

All this facilitates the entry of bacteria into the body. Several studies show that 50% of the world's population is infected with this bacteria at some point in their lives.

This type of cancer has also occurred in people with an unhealthy diet containing large amounts of smoked food. , fish, salted meat and vegetables preserved in vinegar.
