European scientific groups have planned a major collaborative announcement on April 10 and many believe they have the very first image of a huge black hole in the Milky Way galaxy.
The European Southern Observatory
will hold the press conference
present a "revolutionary result" with audio-visual material to support the research result. The details are not detailed, but scientists around the world speculate that images from the Event Horizon telescope may have captured the black hole.
The press conference and the presentation are a collective effort of the European Commission, the European Research Council and the Event Horizon telescope.
The Horizon Events Telescope is trying to get a picture of the gigantic black hole of the galaxy, called "Sagittarius A *". It has been in the heart of the Milky Way since its launch in 2006.
What's a black hole?
It is thought that black holes have a mass of about 4 million suns and can bend the structure of space-time. This leads to the formation of new stars and allows galaxies to develop.
Scientists have never been able to photograph a black focus, but have predicted their existence in the middle of all galaxies.
The press conference with ESO is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10 at 9 am Eastern Time in Brussels, Belgium.
