KINGS HIGHWAY MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 2312 Fluker St., will celebrate the second birthday of Pastor and Wife, Reverend Anthony J. Howard and Julia Howard, at 10:45 am on Sunday, October 10. Everyone is invited to join the celebration virtually on Facebook. The guest speaker will be Reverend Brian Castle of Indiana Street Baptist Missionary Church. The pastor and his wife’s celebration and tributes will continue throughout Clergy Appreciation Month in October.
HISTORIC SIGNIFICANT DEDICATION CEREMONY for Old St. Andrews Episcopal Church – A Black Episcopal Mission will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, October 17 at its former site, currently the site of Lake Saracen Splash Park. Mayor Shirley Washington, Peter Perschbacher, State Senator Stephanie Flowers, Reverend Canon Jason Alexander of the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas and Reverend Phoebe Roaf, Episcopal Bishop of West Tennessee will all attend the ceremony of ‘inauguration. Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask and respect social distancing. Roaf will also be the guest speaker / homilist at Grace Episcopal Church, 4101 S. Hazel St., for this Sunday service at 10:30 am. The community is invited to attend.
ST. JOHN AME CHURCH, 1117 W. Pullen St., will provide boxes of food to those in need from 9 am to 11 am on Saturday October 9th. The driving session will take place in front of the church on Cherry Street. State ID is required to receive one box per family. Beneficiaries must stay in their vehicles and open their safes. PILGRIM MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 2507 Hill Street, will be opening its Raven’s Nest pantry on October 9 from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. or until all food has been distributed. Food will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Participants must bring photo ID. This program is a US Department of Agriculture distribution site and equal opportunity provider, according to a press release.
ST. JOHN AME CHURCH, 1117 W. Pullen St., will be hosting a drive-thru or treat event for the Pine Bluff kids from 11 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday, October 30, in the church parking lot. Bags of hot dogs, candies and treats will be provided. For security reasons, recipients are requested to stay in their vehicle and open the trunk of their vehicle. Masks are mandatory, according to a statement. Reverend Cecil L. Williams Jr. is the pastor.
MT. NEBO MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH in Pine Bluff will host the seventh annual breast cancer awareness event virtually from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30. The community is invited to join the event via Zoom as organizers raise awareness, inspire hope, celebrate survivors and encourage early detection, according to a press release. This year’s theme is “Awareness is Key in 2021”. This event is presented in memory of Billie Jean “BJ” Jackson.
OZARK MISSION PROJECT (OMP), a non-profit ministry of The United Methodist Church (UMC), will perform free minor home repairs for those in need in the summer of 2022. Projects include painting, roadworks yard work, building wheelchair ramps or making other Minor Repairs. People who need this help should submit an application for the free projects. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2022, according to a press release. The group will be stationed at Pine Bluff at the First United Methodist Church and will work on projects July 18-21.
