Pistons swap for Delon Wright for much needed depth of guard, redirect Trevor Ariza

The Detroit Pistons continued to remake and balance their new look by accepting a three-team trade that will see Delon Wright in Detroit, Trevor Ariza and Justin Jackson at OKC and James Johnson in Dallas.

Wright makes a lot more sense for the Detroit roster as he is a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who can also handle playmaking duties and provides a firm, veteran hand.

In a team with Derrick Rose – both injury-prone and potentially tradable – and rookie Killian Hayes as their only guard points, adding a player like Wright provides flexibility. The 28-year-old goaltender has been good everywhere he has been, and Detroit will be his fifth stop in six years.

He doesn’t return the ball and has had reasonable efficiency throughout his career. Ariza, meanwhile, didn’t have much of a role in Detroit. The Pistons have Svi Mykhailiuk who can play as both the shooting guard and the small forward, just traded for Dzanan Musa and signed Josh Jackson.

The Pistons roster now has 14 guaranteed contracts and its depth graph looks something like:

PG: Derrick Rose / Killian Hayes
SG: All Mykhailiuk / Delon Wright
SF: Jerami Grant / Dzanan Musa / Saddiq Bey
PF: Blake Griffin / Sekou Doumbouya / Josh Jackson / Isaiah Stewart
C: Mason Plumlee / Jhalil Okafor / Tony Bradley

Two-way players: Saben Lee and Jaylen Hands (???)
