The community of Castlewood faces a major water supply outage that could last at least until Monday due to pump failures in the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission-owned well system that serves the Pleasanton area unincorporated.
SFPUC and Castlewood Property Owners Association officials are asking Castlewood residents to limit the use of their domestic water while crews work to temporarily top up the water system tanks while troubleshooting the underlying problem pump continues. The Castlewood club has stopped water irrigation for the day.
Sunday’s interim strategies included trucking water from SFPUC facilities in the Sunol Valley as well as attempting to connect with a fire hydrant in the nearby town to fire from the water system. Pleasanton municipal water, according to SFPUC press secretary Will Reisman.
“This morning, one of the two groundwater well pumps that are part of the SFPUC-owned Pleasanton well system broke down. The other well broke down over a month ago and a new replacement pump is on order, ”Reisman told The Weekly late Sunday afternoon. “It is the sole source of supply for Castlewood and these residents.”
“The SFPUC water supply and treatment crews fixed the problem all day,” said Reisman. “Combined, the trucks and the fire hydrant“ jump ”will not meet the normal demand of this system, but will help. “
