Nintendo, Game Freak and Pokemon Company have registered a trademark for an armored version of Mewtwo.
The Pokemon company has a busy year ahead with the release of a pair of new Pokemon games and two movies, one of which seems to be a CGI remake of the first Pokemon movie – Mewtwo counter-attack. A new brand discovered earlier this month has many fans wondering if we could see a cross between games and movies.
Fans discovered that the Pokemon company had recently filed a trademark for "Armored Mewtwo", a likely reference to parts of the original. Pokémon anime in which Mewtwo wears armor that allows Team Rocket to control his powers. We saw Mewtwo armored in the original Mewtwo counter-attack film, so it's not really a surprise that The Pokemon Company brings him back for the remake of CGI … and uses it probably in the next encounters of derivative products of the film.
However, we also reported earlier this week that the next Pokemon Sword and Shield Rumor has it that the games have "Armored Evolutions", a new type of evolution that is related to the British flavor (because knights and kings and queens and castles and all that jazz) new games. Armored Mewtwo is one of the best-known rumors of Armored Evolutions. As a result, many fans now cite the trademark filing as proof of the legitimacy of the rumor.
It is likely that Armored Mewtwo was a trademark solely for commercial purposes, since Pokemon has not filed any trademark for previous Pokemon variants. For example, The Pokemon Company has not trademarked Mega Mewtwo X or Y and the only Alolan Pokemon for which it has trademarked is Alolan Vulpix, as it was used as a mascot for a Japanese festival. However, the rumor remains extremely intriguing and could indicate interesting times for Pokemon fans.
