New Ulm Police

• Investigated a report of a woman fraudulently receiving unemployment benefits for an inmate by mail. A woman admitted to receiving the payments and claimed to be the inmate’s power of attorney. A report was sent to the state unemployment office and Brown County Social Services.

• Attempted service of arrest warrant against 22-year-old New Ulm man at New Ulm Mobile Village, 2526 Bridge St. S at 8:17 am Monday. Police found the man hiding in a closet. He fled, was shot and arrested. With multiple arrest warrants, he also faces charges of obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and fleeing from police on foot. A 22-year-old Sleepy Eye woman has been arrested on a warrant. Reports have been sent to the New Ulm city attorney and Brown County probation offices.

• Received a report of suspicious activity at 1400 Valley St. S. at 1:00 am Monday. A caller said a man pulled over in a vehicle while fishing on the Minnesota River. A man drove the vehicle and was subsequently pulled over in the Thrivent parking lot. The vehicle was searched and burglary tools were found. A report including the police leak in a motor vehicle against the 36-year-old man from New Ulm has been sent to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office.

• Took a report at 10:04 PM on August 27 of a multi-speed bicycle stolen from a residence at 600 German St. S. The bicycle was described as purple and gray with a large seat and tires and a value of $ 150. The appellant testified that a bicycle was left where the stolen bicycle was collected. Police located the owner of the other stolen bicycle.

• Responded to a report of a toddler alone near the New Ulm Affordable Motel, 1427 S. Broadway, at 10:07 PM on August 27th. The boy’s parents were later found. It was determined that the boy had exited the building through a window. A report was sent to Brown County Social Services.

• Arrested a 23-year-old man in New Ulm under an arrest and detention order at 720 German Street North at 9:20 pm on August 26th. A report was sent to the Brown County Probation Department.

• Took a stolen van report at 7:09 am Aug 27 from New Ulm Bus Lines, 1400 Minnesota St. S. Onboard cameras led to charges against a 44-year-old Shakopee man now in Nicollet County Jail .

• Received a parking complaint at 522 Jefferson St. N. at 11:52 am on August 27th. The vehicle in question was determined to be stolen and towed to the police impound.

• Took a domestic assault report at 5:51 pm on August 26 from a 19-year-old Sleepy Eye woman regarding a 20-year-old Sleepy Eye man. A report was sent to the Sleepy Eye City district attorney’s office.

• Responded to a car-pedestrian accident at 501 Burnside St. Se at 7:44 am Monday. Jeffrey Haala, 51, Sleepy Eye was driving a car which collided with Sandra Sellner, 71, Sleepy Eye. She was taken by ambulance to Sleepy Eye Medical Center.

Sibley County Sheriff

• Vehicle rollover response at 5:35 pm Sunday at the intersection of Scenic Byway (CR 6) and 291st Avenue. Quincy Lindee, 38, of Arlington, was heading south on 291st Avenue when he lost control of a 2002 Chevy Silverado, entered the ditch and drove away. He was able to extricate himself from the vehicle. A passing motorist called in the report to the police. Lindee was taken to a hospital in Waconia with minor injuries. The Belle Plaine Fire Department and Ridgeview Ambulance provided assistance.

• Responded to an accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of 441st Avenue (CSAH 13) and 220th Street in Dryden / New Auburn Townships at 2:30 pm on August 26th. Thomas Goethke, 16, of Arlington, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix eastbound on 220th Street when he collided with Madeline Blair, 19, of Sauk Rapids, who was heading north on the CR 13 in a 2013 Buick Regal. Blair was taken to Ridgeview Sibley Medical Center for evaluation. The accident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Arlington Fire and Ambulance, the Minnesota State Patrol, and Afterburner Towing provided assistance.

• Responded to a vehicle crash on TH 19 and 511th Avenue, approximately three miles west of Gaylord at 4:57 am on August 28. Julio Rodriguez, 45, Winthrop, was heading east on TH 19 when he lost control of a 2006 Saturn Vue, entered the ditch, tried to chase but got stuck in the ditch. He was not injured. The damage to the vehicle was moderate. The Winthrop Ambulance and Gaylord Fire Department provided assistance.
