COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) – For the third week in a row, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has reported a total of three days of new detected COVID-19 cases exceeding 10,000.
DHEC said a total of 16,072 new cases were recorded between Thursday and Saturday.
The agency is providing the latest new number of COVID-19 cases and deaths with a 48-hour deadline, which it says ensures more time to verify the numbers. It only publishes this data on weekdays, which means Mondays include the publication of three days of information, from the previous Thursday through Saturday.
The data includes both confirmed and probable cases. The agency says confirmed cases are detected using PCR testing while probable cases are detected through rapid testing.

Among Lowcountry counties, DHEC has reported a total of 24 deaths; 19 were confirmed and three were under investigation as probable.
Charleston County has reported nine confirmed deaths and one probable death. Dorchester County has reported four confirmed deaths. Berkeley County has reported two confirmed deaths and one probable death. Colleton County has reported three confirmed deaths and one probable death, while Beaufort County has reported one confirmed death.
DHEC said results on Saturday, the most recent day for which testing data was available on its website, included 41,229 tests with a positive rate of 11.4%, up from 12.7% the previous Monday. .
Since the start of the pandemic, the state has recorded a total of 730,685 cases, including 592,909 confirmed cases and 137,776 probable cases; and 10,562 deaths, including 9,259 confirmed deaths and 1,303 probable deaths.
The state has performed more than 9.5 million COVID-19 tests since March 2020.
