Morgan High’s women’s tennis won the 3A State Championship in spectacular fashion on Saturday, winning the title over regional rival Grantsville as they beat the Cowboys in the No.2 doubles final, which was the penultimate match of tournament championship.

Trojans sophomores Ryann and Sydney Jensen took the # 2, 6-4, 6-2 doubles victory over the Grantsville side of Lauren Holt and Afton Orgill to put the tag team title out of reach .

Katelyn Steel won the No.1 singles championship for Morgan with a 6-1, 6-3 sweep from Sophie Crosby of Grantsville.

MHS finished with 19 points versus 18 for Grantsville. This is the Trojans’ second tennis title in three seasons.

5A STATE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

Woods Cross High tied with Highland for the 5A Women’s State Tennis Championship on Saturday. Both teams had 17 points.

WXHS had two state champions: rookie Sage Bergeson with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No.1 singles final over Highland’s Dylan Lolofie and 7-6 (1) of rookie Emmy Richards, 6 -4 against rookie Olympus Savannah Rosenhan in the # 2 singles final.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

THE BRANCHES OF THE 4A, 2A Playoffs REVEALED

St. Joseph High women’s football took the No. 5 seed in the upcoming 2A State Playoffs as state tournament supports were revealed on Saturday. The Jayhawks are scheduled to host No.12 San Juan on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

The Utah Military Academy is seeded # 13 visiting # 4 in U.S. Heritage that same day. In 4A, Bear River is the # 12 seed and visits # 12 Green Canyon, also Wednesday.

Wednesday is also the time for the 3A second round playoffs. Morgan and Ogden are expected to host matches, while No.10 Ben Lomond will play at No.7 Judge Memorial.

MOUNTAIN CREST 28, BEAR RIVER 14

GARLAND – In a game that was postponed to Saturday afternoon due to thunderstorms on Friday, Mountain Crest assured Bear River of ending with a winless regular season for the first time since 1950 by beating the Bears 28-14.

The game was tied 7-7 at halftime with the Bears’ Wyatt Roberts (0-9, 0-5 Region 11) returning a punt for a score. BR quarterback Owen Olsen threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Gage Hansen to tie the score 14-14 in the third quarter, but the Mustangs controlled the business afterward.

BR is now awaiting his seed for the playoffs and who he will face in the State 4A playoffs.
