Recall of ready-to-eat sausages recalled due to possible contamination by pieces of metal

(WXYZ) – North Country Smokehouse has recalled nearly 3,000 pounds of ready-to-eat sausages, with meat potentially contaminated with pieces of metal.

The company recalls a total of 2,686 pounds of sausages.

The Food Inspection and Safety Service (FSIS) of the US Department of Agriculture announced the March 23 recall. The problem was discovered on March 18th through an FSIS inspection. Sausage products have been shipped to retail outlets across the country.

According to a press release posted on the USDA website, the contaminated sausages were produced on February 7 and 8 and display the following information on the label:

• 1 lb Vacuum packages containing "KIELBASA OF POLISHED STYLE AT THE OLD ANCIENT KIELBASA OF NORTH COUNTRY SMOKEHOUSE ORIGINAL" with "USE BY 05/09/19".
• 12 oz Vacuum packs containing "NORTH COUNTRY SMOKEHOUSE * KIELBASA, POLISHED STYLE IN NATURAL FASHION AND OLD FASHION", with the word "USE BY 23/04/19".
• 1 lb Vacuum packaging containing "KILCHURN ESTATE® SMOKED KIELBASA" with "USE BY 05/09/19".

The recalled products bear the EST establishment number. 5390A "inside the inspection mark of the USDA, according to a statement.
