Recyclables pile up for Republic Services customers – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana weather

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – City residents pay Republic Services for the collection of recyclable materials, it may take some time for the truck to arrive.

North side customer Katherine Carlton-Robinson said: “It was supposed to be picked up last Friday, and they let us know that was not going to happen and that it would be an indefinite delay.”

The garbage was eventually picked up at Carlton-Robinson’s home, but not the recycling. “It’s a Republic trash over there. This trash can was completely overflowing until maybe last night. It was finally picked up, looks like.

She added: “They said at the beginning just a week, and now they say they don’t know when it’s going to happen. We just didn’t pick up our recycled products in the last week, and we also had issues before that they weren’t picking up cardboard boxes that were broken and that sort of thing, just incomplete pickups .

The News 8 drone inspected parts of the city center and found recycling bins that appear to have been neglected for weeks.

According to the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, the highest number of complaints in the first two weeks of August came from the area just north of downtown, with 279 calls, and the far east of Marion County with 468. The two areas are generally average. between 11 and 20 calls per week.

Public Works says the recycling issues are between Republic and its client.

Republic told News 8 it was having issues, but did not say when recycling pickup would resume, or if customers would see a reduction in their monthly bills.

“We have experienced temporary collection delays over the past few weeks due to staffing issues, supply chain issues and the continued increase in the volume of solid waste.”
