Researchers at the University of Minnesota and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predict that a virus appears to be causing the polio-like illness that has affected several children in the region last fall .

It has caused paralyzing symptoms in some children, including some from Pennsylvania.

The researchers said they found the virus in the cerebrospinal fluid of one of six Minnesota children with acute flaccid myelitis.

There were 228 confirmed cases of MFA in 2018.
