Riverside County Reports Record 8,000 New Coronavirus Cases in 24 Hours; testing efforts are stepping up across the region

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (KABC) – Riverside County has broken a new record after reporting 8,000 new COVID-19 infections in just 24 hours, with more than 1,000 residents hospitalized with the virus. The continuing surge makes testing more urgent than ever.

“The more people there are who find out whether they have COVID or not, if they are positive, they isolate themselves and they break that chain of exposure, and they don’t infect any other person,” said the Captain Brian Guzzetta of the City of Riverside Fire. Department.

On Thursday afternoon at the University of California at Riverside, cars lined up at Lot 26 for free COVID-19 testing. The campus is the city’s third test site that already has two more drive-through locations, along with a downtown kiosk and a mobile test van.

The city is working with Curative to provide less invasive self-administered oral swabs.
“We know that testing is the key to slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our community,” Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said.
