SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Residents of Sacramento are once again urged to hide indoors as the county’s COVID-19 case rate rises and the Delta variant rises.
The Sacramento County public health official on Thursday recommended that fully vaccinated people resume wearing a face mask indoors in environments where vaccination verification is not required.

This means that masks are highly recommended in public places like a grocery store or restaurant, but not in a workplace where employers request self-certification of vaccination status.
County officials say the increase in daily COVID-19 cases appears to be due, in part, to the Delta variant.

“The drastic increase in cases is concerning – as is the number of people who choose not to be vaccinated,” Olivia Kasirye, public health official for Sacramento County, said in a statement.
Sacramento County leads the state in COVID infection rates.
Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated. Only 47% of the population of Sacramento County has received the vaccine.

Sacramento County is the second area in the region to urge people to wear masks again. Yolo County public health officials also urged their residents to start masquerading again on Wednesday.
