The San Antonio City Council made the headlines in the national press after voting short against the departure of Chick-fil-A at the San Antonio International Airport.

The decision made headlines far beyond San Antonio, prompting reactions from citizens and elected officials across the country.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and National Rifle Association spokesman Dana Loesch were among those who quickly criticized the council for the vote, while others celebrated the council's decision.

Following the controversy, Councilor Greg Brockhouse wrote a letter of apology to Chick-fil-A explaining the council's vote. He is running as mayor against outgoing President Ron Nirenberg later this year.

According to the plan approved by the board, the following companies will open at the airport: the Sip Brew Bar and Market, the Smoke Shack, the local cafe, the Spurs store, the Adina market, the luxury, the Boss Bagels and the SIP.
