San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 03/23/2021

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through March 22.

More than 1.59 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been delivered in the region and more than 1.44 million have been recorded as administered. This number includes both county residents and those working in San Diego County.
Of those vaccinated to date, more than 504,000 county residents, or 18.8% of San Diegans aged 16 and over, are fully vaccinated.
Overall, more than 823,000 county residents received at least one injection of the two-dose vaccine. That’s 30.6% of those who are eligible.
Those who receive the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine add up to the total of fully vaccinated San Diegans.
The difference between the doses delivered and those used in a vaccination represents approximately what should be administered in the next seven days and the doses that still need to be entered into the recording system.

The adjusted case rate calculated by the state of San Diego County is currently 5.5 cases per 100,000 population. The county is in the red level.
Currently, the percentage of positive tests is 2.4%, placing the county at level 3 or orange level.
The county’s Health Equity Indicator, which examines the positivity of testing for areas with the lowest health conditions, is 3.4% and is also found in Orange level or 3.
While two of the three parameters qualify the county for Orange level or Level 3, the state assigns counties to the most restrictive level.
The California Department of Public Health assesses counties weekly. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday March 30.

No new community outbreaks were confirmed on March 22.
In the past seven days (March 16-22), 16 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
The number of community epidemics remains above the trigger point of seven or more in seven days.
A community-based outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one setting and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

11,456 tests were reported to the county on March 22 and the percentage of new positive cases was 2%.
The 14-day moving average percentage of positive cases is 2.7%. The target is less than 8.0%.
The daily 7-day test average is 11,482.

243 cases of COVID-19 were reported to the county on March 22. The region’s total is now 268,160.
13,969 or 5.2% of all cases required hospitalization.
1,628 or 0.6% of all cases and 11.7% of hospitalized cases required admission to an intensive care unit.

Four new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on March 22. The total for the region is 3,498.
A woman and three men died between March 19 and March 21.
One deceased was 80, 70, 60 and 50.
All of them had underlying medical conditions.
