Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through January 6, 2021.

The current availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds for the Southern California area is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
the Regional stay-at-home order is in effect and prohibits gatherings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for several areas.
The order will last until the region’s ICU availability reaches or exceeds 15%.

Eight new community outbreaks were confirmed on January 6: three in businesses, one in a daycare / preschool / daycare, one in a distribution warehouse, one in a faith-based facility, one in a government setting, and one in a health facility. .
In the past seven days (December 31 to January 6), 38 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
The number of community outbreaks remains above the trigger by seven or more in seven days.
A community-based outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one setting and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

33,491 tests were reported to the county on Jan.6 and the percentage of new laboratory-confirmed cases was 11%.
The 14-day moving average percentage of positive cases is 13.8%. The target is less than 8.0%.
The daily 7-day test average is 23,719.
People at higher risk of COVID-19 who may or may not have symptoms should be tested. People with symptoms should get tested. Healthcare professionals and essential workers should also get tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or who live in heavily affected communities. Those who have recently returned from travel or attended holiday gatherings are also advised to get tested.

3,850 cases were reported to the county on January 6. The region’s total is now 180,512.
6,142 or 3.4% of all cases required hospitalization.
1,261 or 0.7% of all cases and 20.5% of hospitalized cases required admission to an intensive care unit.

47 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 6. The region’s total is now 1,738.
16 women and 31 men died between December 21 and January 5.
Of the 47 new deaths reported today, eight people have died in their 50s, 11 in their 80s, 10 in their 70s, 14 in their 60s, two in their fifties and two in their 40s.
46 had underlying medical conditions and one has a pending medical history.
