SANTA CRUZ – A fully vaccinated Caucasian man has died from COVID-19, according to Santa Cruz County public health officials.
The man, who was 90, had “several underlying health problems” and died on October 2.
The infection, according to county health officials in a press release, was likely to be acquired by the community.
This death is the 216th in Santa Cruz County attributable to COVID-19 and the third death of a person fully vaccinated against the virus.
County officials reiterated in the prepared statement that the Delta variant is easily spread from person to person, so almost all new cases are acquired in the community, where the source of infection is is not known.
Vaccination continues to be the best tool to stop the spread of COVID-19, health officials noted. Eligible residents who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
