SC reports 2,232 new COVID-19 cases, 7 new deaths, Monday

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – On Monday, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported a total of 2,232 cases (1,827 confirmed, 405 probable) as well as 7 deaths (seven confirmed, zero probable ). These figures are correct as of September 25.

On Sunday, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported a total of 2,917 cases (2,399 confirmed, 518 probable) as well as 67 deaths (58 confirmed, nine probable).

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported a total of 3,133 cases (2,277 confirmed, 856 probable) as well as 60 deaths (33 confirmed, 27 probable) on Saturday.

The difference between confirmed and probable cases is based on the type of test a person receives. The probable cases are treated as cases confirmed by the doctors, specifies the DHEC.

DHEC is no longer giving a date of death for these reports, saying it violates the privacy of the deceased due to the decrease in deaths from COVID-19 statewide.

The agency has also stopped sharing the age range of people who die from COVID-19 each day, but it publishes weekly reports with this information on Tuesday.

While new cases of COVID-19 were down in South Carolina in June, cases have been on the rise since mid-July.

As of September 25, DHEC reported that among South Carolina residents eligible for the vaccine:

• 60.1% received at least one vaccine – 2,582,710 people
• 51.7% are fully vaccinated – 2,222,943 people

PERCENTAGE OF POSITIVE TRACKING

Percentage positive refers to the number of people who tested positive for COVID-19 compared to the number of tests performed.

DHEC reports that the percentage of positive results on the 29,837 molecular tests that were most recently reported to them was 8.3% (not counting antibody tests).

COVID-19 HOSPITALIZATIONS

From Friday, the US Department of Health and Human Services says 81.49% of inpatient beds in South Carolina are in use while 84.85% of intensive care beds are in use.

There are 2,132 inpatients who have COVID-19, representing 18.41% of inpatient beds used for COVID-19, HHS reported. Of these patients, 563 are in intensive care. The HHS reports that 40.96% of intensive care beds are used for COVID-19.

Cases, hospitalizations and deaths among the unvaccinated

On July 8, 2021, DHEC began reporting data on COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths by vaccination status.

The agency will continue to analyze the data it has and will report the results every two weeks to keep South Carolina up-to-date on the benefits and limitations of vaccinations.

As of September 15, following an initial analysis which found that the overwhelming number of COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the first two weeks of June 2021 were among residents who were not fully vaccinated, DHEC identified similar results by reviewing the provisional data. for the period from August 1 to August 31.

This analysis shows:

• From Aug 1 to Aug 1, 31, DHEC reported 122,746 cases among Southern Carolinians.
• Of the 27,201 reported cases where we were able to determine vaccination status, 23,166 (85.2%) cases were considered not fully immunized.
• Of the 1,522 reported cases that were hospitalized with COVID and where we were able to determine vaccination status, 1,080 (71.0%) were considered not fully vaccinated.
• Of the 611 deaths reported by COVID where vaccination status could be determined, 458 (75.0%) were considered not fully vaccinated.

MONITORING MIS-C AND VIRUS VARIANTS

DHEC has a dashboard that indicates the number of cases of Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19 in South Carolina.

It also shows how much case of different variants were found as is, by type.

As of September 22, there have been 1,576 reported cases of the highly contagious delta variant of COVID-19 in South Carolina. However, health officials say there are likely many more cases of the delta variant in the state. DHEC only sends a random sample of positive tests to look for variants.
