At the end of July, for five nights, the Washington Monument will turn into a Saturn V rocket destined for the Moon.
On Tuesday, the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum unveiled plans for a dazzling "unique in its life" show at the National Mall to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Click here to see an enlarged version of the photo.
From Tuesday, July 16th to Thursday, July 18th between 9:30 pm. and at 11:30 pm, an image of the 14-meter (363-foot) Saturn V rocket that orbited Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin to be projected on the east side of the Washington Monument in front of the building. Capitol.
This weekend, the launch will animate with a full projection combining archival footage from the original launch and the Moon's Landing with illustrations in a 17-minute event titled "Apollo 50". : to the conquest of the moon ».
Support screens, including a reconstruction of the countdown clock of the Kennedy Space Center of a width of 20 meters, will be installed in the Mall for the show, which will take place at 9:30 pm, 10:30 pm. and 23:30 on Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th.
"Go for the Moon" will be free, with viewing areas available on the National Mall, between the Smithsonian Castle and the National Museum of Natural History.
The show was commissioned by the Air and Space Museum as part of a partnership with the US Department of the Interior and 59 Productions. Boeing and Raytheon are sponsors.
