‘Sickening’: Walsh denounces Trump, crowd of supporters storming US Capitol

Mayor Marty Walsh and Boston City Council joined Massachusetts delegation to Congress and Governor Charlie Baker to speak out against President Donald Trump and the mob of his supporters who stormed the US Capitol over fraudulent allegations electoral fraud.

“The unrest in our nation’s capital is unfathomable,” Walsh and the council wrote in a statement. “To witness this type of violence and aggression in response to fair and legitimate election results is disgusting, and President Trump has only fomented this behavior – today and for far too long. He proved, once again, incapable of assuming the responsibilities of the Office of the President of the United States.

“The First Amendment is a fundamental value of this country which guarantees the right of everyone to freedom of expression and to assemble peacefully,” the statement continued. “Peaceably is the key word. In Boston, we are united in speaking out against this violence and we ask everyone, whatever their personal policy, to choose peace over violence. We have to be better than that. We pray for those who are currently on lockdown as well as for those injured in Washington DC Our hearts go out to Mayor Bowser, law enforcement and first responders who are trying to resolve this situation as quickly and peacefully as possible. .
