COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) – The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control said it has confirmed a total of 929 new cases of COVID-19 in the state.

Thursday’s report included 474 confirmed cases and 455 probable cases, as well as seven confirmed deaths. Tri-County accounted for 88 of the newly confirmed cases.

The figures are based on the latest results of 6,153 tests, with a positive rate of 10.8%.

The statewide number of cases is 498,054 confirmed and 107,536 probable.

The confirmed death toll in South Carolina is currently 8,708. There have been 1,168 deaths under investigation as probable in terms of COVID-19.

South Carolina has performed more than 8.3 million COVID-19 tests.

EDITOR’S NOTE: As DHEC continues to adjust the way it communicates COVID-19 numbers, we are working to make the numbers as clear as possible. The DHEC daily total includes both what has been officially reported as “confirmed” and new “probable” cases. The number of confirmed cases comes from the results of PCR tests and the number of probable cases comes from rapid tests. DHEC has previously said it will limit reporting of deaths to one day per week, although it still appears to report the number of confirmed and probable deaths in its daily reports. DHEC reports COVID-19 statistics two days after receiving them. Since the agency doesn’t release numbers on weekends, Monday’s listings include results from Thursday to the previous Saturday, for example.
